Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure to be Revamped

Justice Morawetz, at the Opening of the Courts ceremony on October 3rd, 2022, reflected on the last two years of evolution in the court system, with particular emphasis on the necessity, in the Spring of 2020 to establish electronic based procedures that would carry the courts over the pandemic.

In his remarks he noted that the Rules of Civil Procedure will be undergoing major changes over the next two years to incorporate virtual court procedures, and electronic based filing and litigation.

This evolution will certainly modernize our legal system in Ontario and create more efficiencies that also lead to access to justice.
